Happy saturday beautiful humans -- I hope your valentines/galentines week was incredible and you received the type of love we all deserve. something about a holiday celebrating love makes me really happy and i can't quite put my finger on it. [side note, special shoutout to whoever coined 'galentines' day, you're the real mvp]

This valentines day was very different than i'm used to, but probably one of the best Valentine's Days ever. No, i didn't get a room full of white roses. No, I didn't dress up and go to a fancy dinner. And sadly no, I didn't get a heart box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates with a love note taped to the top of the box.  BUT I did go through the day without sulking and being all sad that I was alone on Valentines Day and for me that was a pretty big win. How? I'm not going to lie, I almost fell under the Snapchat spell -- What's that may you ask? It's when you find yourself tapping through people's adorable stories of what their boyfriend/girlfriend surprised them with wishing you had someone to spoil you. (Don't act like you've never done that before because we all have).  We're all guilty of wishing we had something we don't and I'm slowly but surely learning it will come with time. God's timing is everything, and your own blessing will find you at the right time I promise you. So please don't settle.  Don't settle for someone that won't make you feel like the special person you are. Don't settle for someone that only hits you up at 2 am. Don't settle for someone who doesn't push you to be better.

This is by no means a "I hate boys post" because I'd be lying if I said I did. I just hate that I thought I needed a guy in my life to feel loved. This Valentine's Day I think I figured it all out. It's okay to be alone. In fact, it's more than okay -- it's necessary. I'm 21 years old [omg that's so weird to be able to day now] and I'm still trying to figure myself out. It's imperative that I take time to learn to love myself first. I don't need anyone to shower me with materialistic gifts for me to know that I am loved. I can buy myself chocolate and flowers (who am I kidding, I already do lol). I'm loved by the people that matter most and I'm reminded of that every day.  God, my family, and my my best friends and tbh that's all I really need.

Respect Yourself. Love yourself. Treat Yourself.

This Christmas, THE BALOGUN FAM decided to ditch the white Christmas and head to the southwest And i'm not mad about it... I'm kind of obsessed. Right now it's not too hot, or too cold, the scenery is absolutely stunning and I'm with the fam. Life doesn't get much better than this.

I tapped into the westerner/tusconian vibes of AZ for this fit because why not? Not going to lie, it's a bit out of my comfort zone, but I really loved almost taking on a different persona in this outfit. But that's what fashion's all about amiright?! Plus, I feel like if there's anywhere this is accepted it's here (or Texas).

Now on to the highlight of this post...THESE JEANS!!! I have been looking for the perfect uneven hemmed jeans for the longest time (I even contemplated cutting some myself). Thankfully, Topshop had my back and I stumbled upon the most perfect high waisted, uneven hem jeans. #Blessed

Finals are over, I have my life back and it's almost Christmas...life is so good.

It's been a hot second since my last post, but I feel like it's somewhat understandable. I love blogging, but this gal is not trying to flunk out of school (as easy as that would make life).

All I have to say is TGOD THIS SEMESTER IS OVER...3 semesters (knock on wood) left of college and I have mixed feelings. On one side college is hard and I get little to no sleep, but on the other side WHERE DID THE TIME GO?!?! It has literally zoomed by and I'm slowly coming to the realization that adulting isn't easy...like at all. But i will say that the one thing I will not ever miss is dead week/finals week.

This Charlotte Russe outfit was my go-to dead week/finals week outfit. It was the perfect amount of comfy and put together for the chaos going on the past couple weeks. I'm not one who can throw on sweats and a hoodie to go to class or take a final so this grey, oversized sweater [ I got it in a size large because I love the slouchy look] did the trick. ALSO, I know people hate wearing jeans to study, but these jeggings are literally the most comfortable thing ever.

evergreen.

It's that time of year people. It's finally acceptable to blast 'Misteltoe' by the Biebs + listen to Michael Bublé's Christmas album by the fireplace and I couldn't be happier.  Goodbye PSL, and helloooo Peppermint Hot Chocolate.

This time of year is so beautiful to me, ugh. Everyone's so happy and giving as they celebrate the gift of family, friends, and most importantly the gift of Christ. It just makes me so happy. <3

I'm not going to lie though, with this season comes a lot of responsibilities -- Christmas presents for the fam (buying gifts for 5 people and a dog can be very draining) and finding holiday party dresses (at least 3 because we all have that cousin that will call you out for re-wearing a dress that you wore a couple weeks ago to a fraternity formal on your finsta). The amount of work that goes into this is honestly a lot more than you might think.

Thanks to the amazing people from Charlotte Russe, I've got one dress down. ;) This velvet halterneck dress is the perfect holiday party dress. It's classy, on trend ( I'm obsessed with any and everything velvet) and best of all? ITS SO AFFORDABLE. You get to look like a million bucks without spending that much, because Lord knows your wallet is already crying from all the presents you've bought.

sweater weather

If I've learned anything from my college years, its how to dress + dress on a budget. Repurposing pieces for different events and seasons is a necessity. For this look, not a single one of these pieces is new -- I've literally never worn this outfit before, but it follows trends and I didn't spend a dime. It's like magic. ;)

IMG_4242.JPG
IMG_4245.JPG

I found that I tend to be pretty plain in how I style sweaters: I usually get them in a size large [because I adore the oversized look], then I pair them with jeans or thick black leggings [depending on how comfortable I feel like being that day], and lastly I toss on my black booties. Easy, breezy, beautiful -- basicgirl.

Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the fit I described. That's just my typical lazy day outfit. I challenged myself to put together an outfit different than my typical sweater outfit without buy anything new [because #brokecollegestudent] and here we have it: a denim skirt from F21 last spring/summer and a 2 year old F21 sweater.

Your next outfit, I challenge you to rummage through your closet and put together a kickass outfit [that you haven't ever worn before] with stuff you already have in your closet. It's actually really fun. TRUST.

Your wallet will thank you later ;)

Happy Belated Thanksgiving/ Happy Black Friday/ Happy Early Cyber Monday you beautiful humans! I'm so beyond thankful for your constant love and e-support. I hope your day was filled with love and laughter with those you love and appreciate the most. :)

I LOVE THANKSGIVING. For so many reasons: First off, the food is just purely amazing [Nobody's cooking beats Mama B's cooking and I'm not taking that back] . Everyone is so happy, the fambam is all back together, and Christmas is inching closer and closer.

The shopaholic in me adores thanksgiving because well, #BlackFridaySalesAreBae. JK I lied, online Black Friday + Cyber Monday sales are bae. I've been actual Black Friday shopping once back when I lived in Atlanta, and it was a very traumatic experience that I refuse to ever allow myself to be a part of...ever again.

All I have to say is, I'm thankful for online shopping. One of the cutest online boutiques GG Boutique is having a crazy amazing sale today until Monday. Crazy amazing as in this dress was $46 and now its $29.60 [plus free shipping on orders over $50]. Let me put it in perspective for you...you're only spending 29.60 for a dress that you're not only going to look killer in but it also seamlessly hides your holiday party food baby...do the math ;)

don't slip up.

You wanna know what I love more than a piece of clothing that combines two trends? A piece of clothing that combines two trends AND is on the sale rack. It’s simply a win win win win situation. Luckily, this bomb cami blouse is both. ;)

IMG_4176.JPG
IMG_4171.JPG

Maybe its just me, but do you ever walk by a rack and your eyes zoom onto one thing on the rack and you walk past…then you find yourself slowly backtrack hoping that what you just saw is really as beautiful as it looked when you were in motion. Just me? Kewl. Well, 8 times out of 10, its really not as cute as imagine it to be. But this time…this time it was pure gold.

I got this bad boy for sale at the IU *cringing* Urban outfitters a few weeks ago. I’m obsessed with this top for many reasons -- one of which is the fact that it combines the velvet/ lace cami or slip top trends seamlessly. ”But dem, how do you wear this during real winter/ fall?“ Wow bae, I ‘m so glad you asked. The answer is quite simple really – layer.  You could wear a jacket over it like I did or throw it over a long sleeve tighter top for a more fashion forward look.

lace up.

There's one and only word that I can use to describe this sweater.... supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

(lets hope i spelled that right because I'm pretty sure that's not in the dictionary so I couldn't officially spellcheck)

IMG_1920.JPG

If you haven't seen the lace-up trend everywhere welp, then you more than likely live under a rock (no offense). It's legit everywhere. Since last summer, it's been a hot trend seen in tees, dress, and now sweaters. I think it started when LF stores turned the band tees into lace up tees, and then everyone and their mother started wearing lace up and making their own because who would want to spend $90+ on a shirt they can make on their own.

I love how this sweater from GG Boutique realistically encorprates it into a fall trend. It's a dark olive that kind of just speaks to my soul. If you're more adventurous with your wardrobe, they have it in soooooo may amazing colors (use my code DEMIB25 for 25% off your order):

Be A Good Skort.

Every once in a while you learn something that actually blows your mind... Lately I've had a lot of these "aha" moments.

For example: DID YOU KNOW THE ABC'S ARE SUNG TO THE SAME TUNE AS TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR!!!! Don't believe me? Try it.

 I'll wait...

I've always loved math (well until I came to Purdue and took their math classes, but thats besides the point). So why not combine math and fashion to bring you possibly the most incredible math problem you ever did see:

SKORT = SKIRT + SHORTS

Yeah I know, kind of incredible. I feel like this  is the kind of useful math should be taught instead of Calc 1 -3, but thats just my option *sips tea*

This amazing olive skort from my peeps at Chicwish.com is a great piece to have for those warmer fall days. Unfortunately, I think we have about 2 of those left here in the oh so lovely midwest. :(

But you know what they say -- when life gives you lemons...

I'd really like to give a quick shoutout to Global Warming being the reason for this amazing weather you've given me so far this month. You're nothing shy of amazing (just for clarification I mean this weather not global warming lolz). There are too many holes in this outfit for me to actually be able to wear this in the midwest's REAL fall. So for that, you're the real mvp.

I checked the weather forecast for the week and unfortunately it seems like our time together has been cut short. It's not you, it's me. I was the one that decided to get myself into this crazy bipolar relationship with the midwest. I just need time to figure myself and get used to how things are going to have to be. Our time together really has been amazing and I regret nothing, but I just can't do long distance.

It's not goodbye its see you later. <3

You know what they say: "If you love something let it go, and if it returns it was meant to"

Fold Over.

Have you ever wondered why off-the-shoulder tops, dresses, and sweaters were also called bardot tops? omg same. (if you didn't say yes, this is awkward lol.)

Basically, the style was influenced by the outfit worn by the famous French actress, singer, and fashion icon Bridgett Bardot at the 1953 Cannes Film Festival. You learn something new every day ;) #FashionFactsbyDEMIB

IMG_6570.jpg
IMG_6534.jpg

This "bardot" trend is one that sneakily found its way into fall -- we'll see whether or not it get carried into winter, but I doubt it. Why? because wearing off-the-shoulder tops with a jacket is quite arguably the hardest and most uncomfortable thing ever. Don't believe me? try it. You either awkwardly pull it up so it can kind of sit like a regular top under your jacket OR you have to leave it the way it is and have a clump of fabric sitting weirdly under you armpit. Its a lose lose situation unless there's some life hack I don't yet. If there is pleaseeeee let your girl know.

But hey, maybe off the shoulder jackets are the next hot item? but then like, your shoulders would literally freeze..

After what feels like years, I'm back and I'm better folks. I don't know if you'll believe me when I say this, but I've had these next few posts sitting for a while. Then why haven't I posted them?  Life (aka Purdue Engineering) happened and literally stole all of my time away.

But I'm fine. It's fine. Hell week (aka the past 3 weeks of my collegiate life) have passed and I'm baaaaaackkkkk. ;)

I wish you could feel the softness of this sweater through the screen -- it's kind of amazing. This sweater from Chicwish.com has the perfect hair-tuckable mock collar and I'm kind of in love with it.

[ps. Get 20% off this sweater now until November 2nd with the code Hallo20]

I styled it with black jeans and black booties? shocker. I love the minimal look that pairing camel with black bring and I'm not sorry about it. I know what you're thinking -- Demi, do you own any other jeans besides your James Jeans? I promise I do, but they're are just so comfy and stretchy its hard to not want to wear them.

Don't knock it 'till you try it.
